Soft4FX Forex Simulator and how to use it

You can start a new simulation by selecting the New Simulation button

The New Simulation window will appear. It allows you to set up all the basic and advanced settings before starting a new simulation.

Data settings

Select the data source to use for this simulation:

  • Dukascopy
  • TrueFX
  • HistData
2. Currency Pairs or Indices/Metals

Select the tool for simulation. If you can't find the tool in the list, it means you need to download it first in the Data Center.

Main settings

3. Start simulation from

Select the simulation start date

4. Enable end simulation (Optional)

If you want, you can choose to end the simulation on the selected date. If you do not select this option, the simulation will run until the end of the data.

5. Account currency

Select the currency that will be used throughout the simulation. It will be used to display balance/equity, profit/loss, drawdown and all other statistics.

6. Initial balance

Set an amount to start.

7. Time on chart

Forex Simulator supports two time modes:

  • GMT
The time used by the simulator will be GMT (UTC+0). Daylight saving time (DST) will not be taken into account.
  • Close New York
The simulator will change the historical data in such a way that the end of the day on the chart will match the end of the New York trading session. This effectively means using GMT+2 or GMT+3 depending on winter/summer time in New York. It also means showing only 5 daily bars for a week (no Sunday candles). Please note that this is not the same as setting the clock to New York time
8. Allows rewinding

Enable or disable backward movement during simulation. Rollback can be useful in many situations, but it also creates the possibility of fraud.

Advanced settings

9. Pip size

Set size to 1 pip. The default value should be suitable for currency pairs, but you may want to adjust it for other instruments.

10. Lot size

Set the size of 1 lot. The standard lot size in Forex is 100,000 currency units, but it may be different in the case of other instruments.

11. Lever

Set the maximum leverage available when making a trade. Greater leverage allows you to make larger trades with less money (smaller margin required). Leverage is the inverse of the margin required to execute a trade.

12. Spread
Spread is the difference between the Ask price and the Bid price. You can choose what type of spread you want to use:
  • Real (variable, floating) - Use real spreads provided by data providers (Dukascopy, TrueFX, HistData).
  • Fixed error - Set your own fixed spreads. It will not change throughout the simulation.
13. Commission per lot (Optional)

Some brokers charge a commission when making trades. You can simulate this and decide how much you want to be charged per trading lot.

14. Initial history on chart

By default, the simulator will start with a lookback after 31 days. That means at the start of the simulation the charts will only show 31 days of history (of course, they will increase over time). You can change the original look using this setting.

Keep in mind that playback may also be limited by the amount of data downloaded before the start date.

15. Restore last used settings

Brings back the settings used in the most recent simulation. It will overwrite all the settings in this window with the settings of the last simulation.

16. Start simulation

Click when you're ready to begin.

Chart

Immediately after starting the simulation, the Chart Selection window appears. This window allows you to create and open charts for work. You can also open this window during the simulation using the Graph button in the main window.

Create and open charts

A new chart can be opened in 3 steps, highlighted in the image below:

Bước 1

Step 1 Select the chart type and other settings from the boxes at the bottom of the window. The following chart types are available:

    • Standard
      • Base: M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, Weekly, Monthly
      • Custom: M1 - M1440, H1 - H24, D1 - D6
    • Seconds
      • 1 - 3600 seconds
    • Range
    • Tick
      • 1 - 10,000 ticks

Step 2 Click Add to add a new chart to the list at the top of the window. The simulator will now create a new chart. It may take a moment, and you will see a progress bar.

Step 3 Click Open to open the chart in Metatrader. The same chart can be opened multiple times.

How to Open a Chart in Case of Issues If, for any reason, the Open button does not work for you, you can also manually open the chart from the offline chart list in MT4.

    • Go to File -> Open Offline. A list of offline charts will appear.
    • Select the corresponding chart from the list. You should find a name similar to the one in the Offline Chart Name column in the Chart Selection window.
    • Click Open in the Open Offline Chart window

Control box

Each chart opened by the simulator is equipped with a small control box in its corner. It shows the chart type, current time and day of the week. It also allows you to perform some simple actions:

  • -/+ Show/Hide control box
  • 1, 2, 3, 4 Select the corner to display the control box
  • [ |< ] and [ >| ] Move one step back or forward
  • News Show/Hide economic events on this chart
  • Targets Show/Hide the bottom part of the control box
  • Avg Avg stands for average position. When you have at least two trades of the same type (e.g., two buy trades or two sell trades), the Avg button will show you the average position of these trades as a line on the chart, separately for buy and sell orders.
  • Copy/Update selected Copy all selected objects from this chart to all other charts
  • Delete selected Delete all selected objects from this chart and all other charts

Indicators

You can use all the standard (built-in) MT4 indicators such as RSI, MA or ATR. So you can use every indicator that comes with Metatrader 4.

Template

You can use chart templates on the simulator as you normally would on Metatrader. You can apply a template to a chart by right-clicking on the chart -> Template or from Metatrader's menu.

Draw objects

You can use all the drawing tools available in Metatrader during the simulation.

Sorry, it's not possible to switch chart timeframes. Forex Simulator uses offline charts, and offline charts on Metatrader are always fixed to one timeframe. So the only option is to open several charts (multiple timeframes) and switch between them.

However, this makes multi-timeframe analysis more difficult, since objects plotted on one chart (e.g. trendlines) do not automatically appear on other charts (timeframes). space) other.

The solution is to copy objects between charts. It can be done in the following way:

Step 1

Make sure the Obj button is enabled in the Controls box so you can see the bottom of the box.

Step 2

Select the objects you want to copy, for example trendlines. You can select objects with a single click or double click depending on your settings in Metatrader

Step 3

Click Copy/Update selected in the Controls box. The selected objects are copied to all other charts.

If you change an object's position, color, or other settings, you can apply these changes to other charts using the same button.

In the same way, you can delete selected objects from all charts using the Removed Selected button.

You can automate object selection after creation if that helps you. You can do this in Tools -> Options -> Objects in the main menu of Metatrader.

Simulation control

Speed setting

You can start the simulation with the [>] button. You can pause and resume it at any time using the same button.

The speed slider can be used to make it run faster or slower. There are two speed modes available:

A new window will appear and you can set one or more conditions to automatically pause the simulation. Then you just need to press [>] and wait until the price reaches the target.

You can save your work by going to the Save tab in the main window and selecting Save Simulation. You will be asked to select a folder and file name. The software will save your simulation to a .sim file on your computer.

You can load your work from a file by selecting Load Simulation in the first window displayed after starting the program. You will be asked to select the .sim file to download.
