What is Soft4FX Forex Simulator?
Soft4FX Forex Simulator is a backtesting software for trading systems and strategies used by traders.
It allows you to rewind time and replay the market starting from any point. It displays charts, indicators, and economic news as if the market were unfolding in real-time. You can place trades, modify or close them, similar to actual trading.
Trading with historical data saves time compared to real trading, as it allows you to adjust the playback speed, skipping less important periods and focusing more on critical market moments.
Soft4FX Forex Simulator installed on operating system?
The only way to run the emulator on Mac or Linux is to use a virtual machine. Remember that you can test whether it works for free by using the emulator in demo mode.
Installation Instructions
Step 1
If you are using Windows 7, make sure that Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 is installed on your computer (Check and install). Newer systems should come pre-installed so this step is not necessary.
Step 2
Download the latest version of Forex Simulator and save it somewhere on your disk.
Make sure you know the file's location on disk so you can find it. If you're not sure where your web browser stores the file, you can find it using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + J in the browser and selecting Show in Folder or Open Downloads Folder.
Step 3
Open your Metatrader 4 and go to File -> Open Data Folder in the main menu. A new window will open showing your Data Folder.
Step 4
Open the MQL4 folder and then go to the Expert folder. This will be the destination folder for the downloaded file.
Step 5
Copy or move the downloaded Soft4FX Forex Simulator.ex4 file to the destination folder ( MQL4\Experts ).
Step 6
Restart Metatrader.
Step 7
Go to Tools -> Options -> Expert Advisors in the main Metatrader menu and enable Allow DLL imports
Step 8
Open the Navigate window in Metatrader (Ctrl + N or View -> Navigate). Soft4FX Forex Simulator will appear in your Expert Advisors list in the Navigator window.
Now the installation is complete.
Start up and activation
Step 1
Open a new chart (any instrument and timeframe) and drag Soft4FX Forex Simulator from the Navigator onto this chart.
Forex Simulator will clear the chart by removing all EAs, indicators and graphical objects, so it is always safer to use a new blank chart.
Step 2
The configuration window will appear. Just press OK.
Step 3
The login window will appear.
- If you want to try the software in demo mode for free, select Demo mode and click OK.
- If you want to work in full mode, select Full mode and enter your license details (e-mail and activation code) in the input fields.
- If you lost your activation code, you can restore it here or contact Soft4fxi.
- Enabling Save login information will require the simulator to remember your e-mail and activation code on this Metatrader platform.
Click agree.
Step 4
Forex Simulator will verify your license and get started. If there are any problems activating the emulator, a message will be displayed.
Now you are ready to use the emulator.
Update to the latest version
You can download the latest version of Forex Simulator from Soft4fx's download page and install it according to the installation instructions above, that is, overwrite the existing version.
Software updates are free.
Download data
- Forex Simulator can download historical data from the following data sources:
- Dukascopy
- TrueFX
- HistData
All available tools are listed on this page.
Data can be downloaded in Data Center. You can access it immediately after starting the emulator using the Data Center button
Select Data Center
Data Center is the folder where Forex Simulator stores all downloaded data. By default, that is your Documents folder, but you can easily change it to any other folder using the Change Folder button in the Data Center. The selected folder will be displayed in the top part of the window in green color.
Downloads can take up a lot of space. A device usually has 1 - 2 GB. Make sure your Data Folder has enough free space
Download data
Step 1
Select the data provider (data source) from the box. The list of tools will be updated accordingly.
If you're not sure which one to choose, we recommend starting with Dukascopy.
Step 2
Select the tool you want to download and click Download next to it.
Step 3
A small window will appear. Here you can choose how much data you want to download, for example, last 1 year, last 2 years, last 5 years or everything. The full data range is typically 10 - 20 years depending on the tool chosen. Click Download to get started.
Step 4
When you click Download, the emulator displays the download progress. You can wait until it completes or stop it at any time using the Stop button.
Step 5
When the download is complete, the emulator displays the downloaded date range. Now you are ready to use this data in your simulation.
Updating data
Over time, more and more new data becomes available. You can update any tool with recent data quickly without having to reload everything.
When new data becomes available
Dukascopy - new data published every day
TrueFX - new data published monthly
HistData - new data published monthly (sometimes more often)
You can update the data using the Update button next to the selected tool. The emulator will start downloading new data and show you the progress. You can wait until it completes or stop it at any time using the Stop button.
You may see this message from time to time:
There is no new available data. That means your data is up to date and there is no newer data on the server.Delete data
At some point, you may want to delete data to free up disk space. You can do that using the Clear button next to the selected tool.
Of course, you can also delete data by manually deleting files from your Data Folder.
Large volume operations
Data for multiple tools can be downloaded, updated, or deleted at once.
Step 1
Select the tools you want to download, update, or delete. You can also use the Select/Deselect All button if needed.
Step 2
Select the action you want to take: Download All Selected, Update All Selected, or Delete All Selected.
